About Charley
I've been playing guitar for as long as I can remember, and teaching for more than three decades. As a teacher and as a musician, what motivates me is sharing the joy of making music.
My Story
I'm a proud native of Arlington, Virginia, and have been teaching private and group guitar lessons for over 30 years. I am a strong believer in the power of fun when it comes to teaching music. Whether you're eight or 58, if you don't enjoy the process of learning, you won't stick with it. I strive to foster a real love of music in all of my students, and I particularly enjoy helping my students learn basic musicianship as they develop and discover their own unique musical voice.

As a performer, I have played in many DC area funk rock and jam bands dating back to the late 1990s, including Boogiehawg, One Ton Wonton, GrooveHead, and Jelly. I've also enjoyed playing lead guitar in Richmond based Jerry Garcia tribute band Brother Jerry, as well as the Virginia Beach/Richmond based Bob Weir tribute band Gettin Weir’d.
Currently, I am a guitarist, songwriter, and co-director of Arlington-based UltraSwayed and am involved with various other musical projects.
